picea

Intelligent Forestry

Picea is a smart monitoring trap designed to protect forests from bark beetle infestations – before they spiral out of control. Combining computer vision, connected hardware, and a low-threshold digital interface, Picea empowers forest owners to act earlier, smarter, and more precisely.

The forest is under pressure. Years of extreme drought have weakened trees and accelerated bark beetle outbreaks. Conventional traps are either reactive or rely on chemicals — often too late to prevent real damage.

Picea reimagines this approach. Inspired by existing pheromone-based traps, it expands the concept into all directions – both literally and technologically. With a 360° orientation and a robust setup, it uses a camera, a Raspberry Pi, and a custom-trained AI to detect and classify bark beetles in real time. Captured data is sent via mobile network to a cloud platform, where it’s analyzed using predictive ecological models – helping forest owners act before infestations spread.
Delivered as a flat-pack kit, Picea is easy to assemble, maintain, and scale. The result is an autonomous, intelligent monitoring system that fits seamlessly into modern forestry.

Picea combines real-time image recognition, mobile connectivity, and ecological logic to stop bark beetles before they spread. Simple to set up. Powerful in action.

Technical Setup

Designing Picea meant translating ecological urgency into intelligent, actionable tools. By combining disciplines, systems, and perspectives, the result is more than a product – it’s a way to give forests a head start.
